Japan Cultural Centre Demonstrations (Brisbane)

Some photos in the Events section of the web site.

None from the Monday demonstration unfortunately as there were only two of us. They did want know whether or not Matt was a robot, however.

The Curumbin demonstration (December 4) is looking like it will have to be cancelled unless someone can offer a suitable vehicle and body for us to use? It is a day at the beach?

Extra Training (Brisbane)

I will repeat this offer.

So far no one has followed through, though I do understand that reading comprehension can be an issue.

Some students have expressed interest in training sessions beyond what is currently on offer, especially for new people facing their first grading.

I will run some all day Sunday classes if sufficient numbers of students are interested.

Express such interest to either myself or Sempai and once a committed quorum has been reached, dates and details will be announced.

Photos from the week

Building on my comments from last week, I have, in addition to the few good photos and those that simply amuse me, deliberately added some examples of very bad technique.

I have done this with a view to the upcoming gradings.

Look at your photos, look at your kamae.

How can you improve?

If you are not the subject, or object of a particular photo, that does not mean you cannot also learn from it.

Do you make those same errors or is your posture that good?

Bristol students, just because there are no photos from your branch each week (and why, by the way, is that?), does not mean you also cannot learn from them. They are, after all, the same techniques as you are learning.

December Grading (Brisbane)

I am thinking of holding this on Sunday, December 21st.

It could then be combined with an after grading celebration, end of year event, Summer Solstice gathering.

As to who grades, if anyone, that decision will be made closer to the time and will be based on your ability over the next few weeks to demonstrate to me that you can perform the appropriate kata and kakari keiko to the standard I require.

You will also have had to have put in an appropriate amount of training hours and be intimate with the required Japanese vocabulary.

Forum

Bristol; interact!

The offer of custom made animated avatars for individuals still stands.

Look how they have subtly enhanced the posts of such Forum stalwarts as Sempai and Tanwyn.

Ikebana

Lily needs some more table space, if anyone has anything suitable, (even fold up card tables), which they can spare for the duration of her current course, please let me know.

Meanwhile, the following article on her appeared in a recent edition of the Westender.

When you do something, you should burn yourself completely, like a good bonfire, leaving no trace of yourself.

-Shunryu Suzuki

Who said that? :

Should budo teachings be spread without regard for the fundamental classical principles and values, and without its intrinsic spirit of discipline, and only with concerns for commercial benefits or other material results, then I am afraid that such an approach will permanently affect and distort to an unremedial extent the traditional values of classical bujutsu.
